Some days are yellow. Some days are blue. On different days I’m different too. Maybe on some days you feel sort of brown, like a bear; you feel slow and low, low down. But then comes a yellow day and wheeeeee! you feel just like a busy, buzzy bee.
Dr. Suess wrote this text in 1973, inspired by the panoramic view of the ocean from his study. He stated in a letter that it ‘needed a great colour artist who would not be dominated by me and who would bring a new pattern of thinking to my words’.
After his death in 1991 his widow brought it to the attention of his editor who commissioned the remarkable paintings from Steve Johnson and Lou Fancher.
